Sichuan "peppercorns" are the small, irregularly round fruits of the Japanese prickly ash tree and are not actually related to the pepper family that produces the black and green peppercorn varieties. Although harder than other peppercorns, sichuan peppercorns can be ground in a standard peppermill. Extremely aromatic, these citrusy morsels have an electric mouthfeel and are popular in cuisines throughout China and Asia.
