Native to West India, Allspice plants produce small brown berries, similar in appearance to black peppercorns but somewhat larger, that are dried and ground to create a sweet and spicy powder that's popular in Middle Eastern dishes, Caribbean cooking, and in baked goods. The English coined the name "Allspice" because they believed it carried the flavors of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg simultaneously.
