Mahlab - Whole

Mahlab is a regal spice native to the Middle East, where its used to give unique depth and incomparable flavor to baked goods, including cookies and biscuits. Collected by gathering the hearts of cherry pits after they're dried and cracked, mahlab is a treasured spice for which we know of no substitute. When served raw, mahlab has sweet and floral notes of cherries, roses, and almonds. When used in a baked or cooked dish, mahlab imparts a fruity taste that's both rich and subtle. Mahlab goes beautifully with dairy dishes, like rice puddings, and in recipes laced with honey.
